Hyun-Joo Kim is the Korean Language Mentor working on a part-time basis (Tuesday and Friday afternoons) and provides expert Korean language and culture knowledge to develop the teaching and learning of Korean in ALLiS funded schools in New Zealand.
With an academic background in language teaching, Hyun-Joo has been teaching Korean as a second and foreign language to learners of a wide range of backgrounds, cultures and age groups in both secondary and tertiary educational institutions in Korea and in New Zealand for over fifteen years. Previously Hyun-Joo served as a lecturer at Korea University in South Korea developing and delivering Korean language courses of all levels, from beginners through advanced, as well as various intensive courses for adult learners for professional development purposes. She also has strength and experience in teaching Korean and Korean Literature for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). Hyun-Joo is happy to be back to the University of Auckland where she used to teach and she is looking forward to engaging with teachers of Korean and those interested in learning and teaching Korean within the network of ALLiS clusters.

Korean Language Courses
The Korean Education Centre (KEC) is offering free Korean language classes beginning in Term 1 of 2017 on 7th February.
Levels available are as follows:
Level 0 - Monday & Tuesday
Level 1 - Wednesday
Level 2 - Thursday
Level 3 & 4 - Thursday
Level 5 - Wednesday
All classes are held at the Korean Education Centre from 6-8pm.

ILEP is offering a beginner level Korean language course in collaboration with the Korean Education Centre (KEC).
This ten week beginner level course is for teachers who have no or very limited knowledge in Korean language but are interested in teaching Korean language and culture in New Zealand schools in the near future. It aims to give teachers an understanding of the Korean language and to help acquire a basic level of communicative competency in Korean. Pre-service teachers are also welcome.

NZ Principals Korean Study Tour
The Korean Education Centre (KEC) NZ Principals Korean Study Tour takes place from 22nd-29th April 2017. This takes 12 Principals and Deputy Principals to Korea, visiting schools and educational organisations. Read more
