International Language Assistant Programme

Arriving from France, Germany and Spain at the start of each year, Language Assistants bring up-to-date cultural knowledge, authentic language and tonnes of enthusiasm. Language Assistants are a fantastic addition to the foreign language classroom.

The International Language Assistant Programme, administered by Future Learning Solutions - Centre for Languages and the respective donor government organisations, enables young native speakers to be employed as Language Assistants in New Zealand schools.

This provides an invaluable source of up-to-date language and cultural input for New Zealand teachers and students of French, German and Spanish.

The programme is available to schools offering languages at primary, intermediate and secondary level.

Applications for Language Assistants are currently closed.

From my own experience, there is so much to discover in New Zealand. Without a doubt, the position of the Language Assistant will help you to realize how much  world has to offer,  so don’t miss it!

Being able to use what they’ve learned in the classroom, being understood by a native speaker and being able to understand certain phrases a native speaker says resulted in a growing self-assurance among the students to actually use the language.

From all the work done, bringing the Spanish culture to the classroom is what I loved the most. It was really exciting for me to talk about festivities and traditions that take place in Spain or in some South American countries.
