Immersion


Teachers can immerse themselves in the language and culture that they teach through several immersion and scholarship programmes in New Zealand and abroad. These programmes also allow teachers to deepen their pedagogical understanding and to create multiple authentic resources that are easily transferable to the language classroom. 


 

ILEP currently runs yearly programmes for teachers in China, New Caledonia, Japan and Spain and supports scholarships to Germany. These unique opportunities have great and lasting effects upon teacher capability, student achievement and the success of Learning Languages in New Zealand schools.

At this immersion stage of the pathway programme, teachers can dedicate themselves to intensive learning of the language, absorbing the culture and deepening their pedagogical understanding through targeted activities in a country that speaks their target language.

Immersion Opportunities by Partner Organisations

AFS - Language Immersion Awards for multiple languages 

Language Immersion Awards (LIA) are funded by the Ministry of Education to improve language teaching and learning in New Zealand Schools. 
Awards are available for short or long term placements (one month, three months or one year).
