Partially or fully funded by the respective donor governments the National Advisers offer language-specific support and advice on a range of aspects relating to language teaching and learning in New Zealand, including effective language acquisition, intercultural communicative competence, professional learning opportunities, networks and resources. National Adviser for Chinese 

I am the National Adviser for Chinese in New Zealand, which is a part of the ILEP team of languages advisers  to support the teaching and learning of Chinese in NZ schools. The position is co-appointed by the Ministry of Education of NZ and of China. I also work in close association with Chinese Embassy and the Consulate – General of China.

Glenda Palmer

National Adviser for French 

I am employed by Uniservices as part of the ILEP contract team of languages advisers to support schools and teachers to implement the Learning languages curriculum area of the NZC. I work in close association with the cultural and educational departments at the French Embassy and other supporting bodies such as NZAFT.

National Adviser for German

Mein Name ist Heike Papenthin und ich bin direkt aus dem hessischen Schuldienst hierher nach Neuseeland gekommen. Geboren bin ich im hohen Norden Deutschlands, in Flensburg. Aber ich hatte viele Stationen in meinem Leben, u.a. habe ich in Berlin, Kopenhagen, Tokyo und Sapporo gelebt.

National Adviser for Japanese

I am Akiko Harada, the new National Language Adviser of Japanese. I arrived in New Zealand in October 2013 to take up my appointment with the Japan Foundation. I am now working as a member of the ILEP team and I also have close working relations with the Embassy and Consulate-General.

National Adviser for Spanish 

I have been part of the Education Services of the Spanish Embassy in Wellington since February 2012. As the Spanish Adviser in New Zealand I am part of ILEP advisory team and therefore linked to the New Zealand Ministry of Education. I have worked as a language teacher, a teacher trainer and a language advisor in Spain, UK and USA. I am a language enthusiast and I will do my best to support teachers of Spanish.
